About me

I'm Fiachra, a UX Designer based in Singapore.

My UX practice is informed by my multidisciplinary foundation in anthropology, political science (BA, Colorado College), and history (Masters, University of Cambridge) – disciplines that have deepened my understanding of human behaviour, strengthened my research capabilities, and refined my expertise in storytelling and information design. In my professional roles, I’ve applied these skills to craft content strategies that boosted engagement, support the development of lectures later published as books, and contribute to podcasts and policy conferences, all of which required transforming complex ideas into accessible and engaging formats.

As a Singapore citizen born to Irish parents, with international exposure in the US, UK, China, and Taiwan, and proficiency in Mandarin Chinese (including ability to read and write simplified and traditional characters), I also bring a global perspective to designing for diverse user needs. Recently, I formalised my UX expertise through a General Assembly Bootcamp, where I honed my skills in user research, usability testing, and prototyping. Drawing on this combination of global experience, research acumen, and design training, I strive to design thoughtful, user-centred solutions that address real-world challenges.

My experience

Take a look at some of my recent experience

September 2024 - December 2024

UX Designer (Freelance & Bootcamp Projects)
General Assembly UX Design Bootcamp | Singapore

  • Spearheaded the end-to-end design process for an Australian property management website (Managed App), introducing a task overlay feature, dashboard redesign, and action centre enhancements, increasing task clarity and efficiency.

  • Implemented existing design systems while creating new components that maintained consistency across pages and platforms.

  • Led UX research for a Singapore Botanic Gardens mobile app, conducting 34 user interviews, non-participant observation, and competitor analysis to uncover visitor needs. Findings informed the design of an app with QR code-enabled plant information and route customisation for different visitor types.

  • Sketched initial design solutions before creating low- to high-fidelity wireframes in Figma, iterating first through team critiques and discussions, then refining based on usability testing insights to enhance usability and engagement.

  • Presented research insights and design solutions to colleagues and clients, ensuring alignment between business goals and user needs.
